Who is going to take care of you?

This is actually a very old blog post from last year. I really wanted to start out this site with this as the fist blog post because I feel it is very important.

Yoga practice today at my favorite studio was very fulfilling. I really needed some time on my mat that wasn’t at home in the middle of all the chaos. With 3 kids, 3 dogs, a couple a cats, and a husband to take care of, things get a little crazy around here…. to say the least. The studio is about a half hour away. I live pretty far out in the country. So, I have plenty of time to think about things to and from the studio. I was excited for practice away from home. Not only away from home, but in a 104 degree studio! I was ready for letting go, expelling toxins, and just being present on the mat. I knew I wanted to set a really good intention for my practice. I couldn’t seem to think of anything though. Maybe I could dedicate today’s practice to my kids, or my husband?

When I got to the studio I chose my place, laid out my mat and sat down. I still had no clue what my intention for this practice was. I did know that I really wanted a donut, and that I was already starting to sweat just sitting there. Then walks in the instructor. She talks about upcoming events, workshops and then….setting an intention. She then thanks us all for making time for ourselves because if we do not take the time to care of ourselves, who will? And then, boom, I’m pretty sure anyone who didn’t have an intention, now had one. All focus was on taking care of thyself.

Really though, who is going to take priority is taking care of you? Who should make sure you get plenty of water? Or exercise? Or proper nutrition? What about that checkup with the doctor you’ve been avoiding, who should take action on that? Who makes sure you brush your teeth? If you do not take care of yourself. No one else will.  I’ve seen and heard so many times of how you can’t pour water from an empty glass. Have you ever poured water from an empty glass? You have to make yourself and your wants and needs a priority. If you work yourself into the ground taking care of others, then what? You must take care of yourself because it is your responsibility to do so, and no one else is going to do it for you.

The plus side is that there are many benefits to taking care of yourself! You’re happier, healthier, and less likely to be on an episode of, “Snapped”!

Until next time ❤
