“Eating alone will not keep a person well; they must also take to exercise...”
— Hippocrates

Since the beginning of time medical and health professionals have been observing how important physical activity is on a healthy life. Physically active people have proven to have lower risks of colon, breast, endometrial and lung cancer. Physical activity also decreases anxiety, depression and age-related cognitive decline. Regular physical activity will provide you with a better quality of sleep. Physical activity is preventative health allowing the reduction of functional limitations; especially older adults who are more at risk of falling.

Recommended physical activity for adults: 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 mins of vigorous activity a week.

Recommended physical activity for children: 60 minutes of moderate physical activity a day.

3 MAIN Elements OF Physical Activity

Strength Training: Use it or lose it when it comes to muscle. As we age it becomes harder to keep and build muscle.

Cardiovascular: Oxygen and blood flow are extremely important to our heart health. Artery wall health and blood pressure also depend on cardiovascular health.

Balance & Flexibility: As we age our muscles shorten. With this also comes muscle imbalance. If our muscles are out of balance than we are out of balance as a whole. When we keep our muscles flexible we are able to keep doing everyday activities well into our old age and are at less of a risk of falling.
